Cartel Land
Cartel land was definitely an action-packed documentary that had me on the edge of my seat multiple times throughout the story. But there were definitely some scenes that hit me harder than others. The scene that got to me the most would be when the defense group gets inside a cartel building and take two well-known cartel members. The scene was full of intense shootouts and people yelling and screaming which added to how extreme this moment was.
In the story, there was some build-up to this event, which made it much more impactful. Where they interviewed a woman that was kidnapped and had to witness her husband and several other men be tortured and killed in absolutely horrendous ways. But the woman was let go because her punishment was witnessing what had happened. After the interview, you are left wondering who would do such an act of violence and asking yourself if those kinds of people are just normal.
After the defense group invades the building, they find two cartel members. And they turn out to be the same two that tortured the men in the scene before which just drops your jaw when you realize what these two normal-looking men have done and what they are capable of. Overall this scene is extremely intense and the aftermath just leaves you stunned when you realize who they actually had just captured.
I haven't seen Cartel Land, but based on your response, I should definitely check it out. I know about the impact of the cartel on politics and citizens in Mexico, but I've never seen the way they do business. I'm sure the documentary captures a lot that would help me get a better understanding.
ReplyDeleteI also watched Cartel Land and it was crazy at times. Can't believe this barbarism and evil exists just to the south of our border. The film does a phenomenal job capturing what the world can't see, and so many of these scenes left me stunned.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing this brief summary of Cartel Land, I am considering watching it on my own time. I can't even believe the stuff that goes down in Mexico. Makes me grateful that I was born in the U.S.
